Spring Fever 5K

Please note that today is April 13th. The name of the race we did today is called Spring Fever Fun Run. Too bad spring is nowhere in sight here in MN :( As my sister-in-law Mary Ann said, "it's like a sick joke."

I was pretty pleased with today's race. My goal was to break 24 minutes. I was on target to do so until we reached the last leg of the race... you know, the part where we had to run around the SNOW COVERED track. While I wanted to push through to get my goal, I decided that my body and my life are more important. To those of you who know me and my competitive spirit well, it appears perhaps I am getting more mature :)Plus, even with the major slow down (according to my watch, I paced the last lap over a minute slower than the rest of my run), I still had a personal best. When I plugged my watch into my computer after the race, the last picture above popped up from NIKE. Gotta love their affirmations.

I also won my age group for the second year in a row...only because my super fast friend who normally wins is pregnant, but hey, I'll take it :)

Getting too big...Almost

Last night Griffin wanted to crawl into my lap and read I'll Love You Forever.

OF COURSE I happily obliged.

And as if that book doesn't already make me tear up Every. Single. Time I read it, I really became a  mess when I realized that I can barely hold Griffin on my lap anymore. I couldn't hold the tears at the end, and a few fell down my cheek.

I truly felt like the mother in the book. My son is almost too big to fit on my lap, but by golly, he WILL fit on my lap for as long as he will let me do this.

As long as I'm living, my baby he'll be.

Running vs. Pregnancy

I just read a fantastic post that compared pregnancy to running your first half or full marathon.

1. You can't talk about anything else
2. Your feet hurt, and sometimes they swell
3. You buy all new clothes--even if you *intended* to stick with the same ratty pair of sweatpants
4. You google evey ache and pain incessantly and worry about what the internet diagnoses
5. You read every blog you can find related to running/pregnancy
6. You constantly compare your size/appearance/form to other runners/other preggos
7. The closer the "big day" gets, the more excited/nervous you get
8. You eat A LOT
9. You have to pee every 45 minutes (from hydrating pre-race)
10. You act like you are the first person in the world to ever run a race/have a baby

It is SO VERY TRUE. All of it.

Just Write...

My children are currently taking a shower. By themselves. My children are old enough to bathe themselves. When did that happen? When did my little men stop needing me so much?

I stare out the window and LONG to go for another spring run. Tax season is almost over. That longing will soon become reality.

Disappointment is hard. But learning from disappointment is a necessary skill in life. Humility. Grace. Growth. All things I need to work on. All things that can stem from disappointment.

Summer is less than ten weeks away. TEN weeks until I get to spend quality time with my babies each and every day. Ten weeks until I get to have massive amounts of play dates with other mommies. Er. I mean with other kids. It's all about the kids.

Did I mention my children are bathing by themselves?

I wonder how wet my floor is...
