Valentine's Day Weekend

Here are a few pictures from our Valentine's Day Weekend. Brandon and I gave Griffin the movie Madagascar for V-Day, and he thoroughly enjoyed it! He also had some fun dressing up in Brandon's work clothes and telling us he was going to "crunch numbers." ENJOY:)

What I want most...

Seeing as I have an abundance of time on my hands, I have started reading people's blogs. When I say people, I mean mostly random people I don't know. Many of my friends have links from their blogs to other blogs, so I click away. Through a series of clicks, I stumbled upon a blog that has left me thinking, a lot! It was here that I discovered the song "Safe and Sound" by Matthew West. I will put the lyrics to this song at the end of this post, but I also highly recommend purchasing it.

Discovering this blog and song has left me thinking a lot about my role as a mother to my two precious boys. God has granted me the wonderful gift of children, and I want nothing more than to fill that role to the best of my ability. So much in this world and in my life is taken for granted, and I don't want that to be the case when it comes to me being a mom. Too many families are unable to have children, so I long to make sure I value my role as a mom more than anything else. So what does that mean? How do I make sure I am fulfilling this role to the best of my ability?

The answer: by being a Christian example to my boys

When asked what I want for my children, there are so many answers I can give. I want my boys to be happy. I want them to experience the same kind of love I have with my husband. I want them to experience friendship like I have with my close girl friends and more recently, my small group. I want them to go to college and explore the world. I want them to enjoy each other as I have grown to love and enjoy my siblings. I want them to find a career, not just a job. I want them to laugh often for no reason. The list goes on. But you know what I want most? I want them to KNOW Jesus. I mean REALLY know Him. I want them to experience the love Jesus has for them... A love that is so powerful and wonderful that I am brought to tears just writing about it. I want them to know that there is no greater thing in life than serving our most wonderful God. I want them to know that God will keep them "Safe and Sound." I want them to know my love is powerful and that I will try to keep them safe and sound, but that what I can do is nothing compared to the love they can share with their creator and savior.

This new song reminds me of how important my role is when it comes to sharing Jesus with Griffin and Grayson. It is my job to teach my boys to pray. It is my job to share the light I have because of Jesus. It is my job to pray with them, pray for them, and teach them about all God has to offer. There is not greater role. Pray with me as I try to fulfill that role because it is what I want most!

Song: Safe and Sound
Artist: Matthew West

Lyrics:

Can’t believe you’re here now
Tiny dream come true
The answer to a prayer now
I’m so in love with you
Couldn’t wait to meet you
Hope you like your name
I get the funny feeling
Life will never be the same

Safe and sound
You’re here with me now
Like I hoped you’d be
Safe and sound
You’re here with me now
And that’s all I’ll ever need

The world’s a scary place here
But baby it’s alright
I’ll make sure the coast is clear
So you can just sleep tight
But if you’re afraid of monsters
Like everybody is
I’ll be right beside you
Closer than a kiss

Safe and sound
I’m here with you now
And you will always be
Safe and sound
I’m here with you now
And that’s all you’ll ever need

Someday I’m gonna teach you
The reason why we pray
So that heaven’s love may reach you
Every single day
So, baby close your eyes now
And say a prayer with me
Lord, I lay me down to sleep now
But I know I will be

Safe and sound
You’re here with us now
And we will always be
Safe and sound You’re here with us now
And that’s all we’ll ever, all we’ll ever need
You’re all we’ll ever need

A new room!

Today was the first day in Griffin's new room!!! We tried having him sleep in his "big boy" bed last night, but it did not go well. However, after an hour of coaxing today, he took a nap for the first time in his new room. It makes me a little sad to see my little man growing so big, but it was a great milestone to have him out of the crib/toddler bed. Next step...finish cleaning the rest of the upstairs! Baby Grayson will be here before we know it!

Almost Ready...

Our house is almost ready for Baby Dunigan #2:) The 3rd bedroom is nearing completion, and slowly but surely friends and family are helping us get the house organized enough to welcome a second baby. Since he is nearing the turning point of being healthy upon birth, I submitted my thesis, and a long-term sub has finally taken over my classroom, I am officially ready to have this precious boy arrive! (Well, I would like a couple more weeks, but close enough!)

The pictures above assure us that Griffin is ready for his new baby brother too. My friend was over yesterday with her twins, and Griffin was in 7th Heaven. He is still talking about "Erica's babies."
